Suunto Ocean vs Suunto Vertical 2
The Ocean costs $300 more for a built-in dive computer and rates higher, while the Vertical 2 counters with a full generational leap to AMOLED, a built-in LED flashlight, and wrist calls that the Ocean doesn't have.
SuuntoSuunto Ocean
SuuntoSuunto Vertical 2
- •Tank pressure monitoring and multi-gas diving are things you'd actually use
- •$300 more is worth it for dive-computer certification and Suunto's higher-rated pick
- •You have no need for dive computer functionality
- •A bright AMOLED display, built-in flashlight, and wrist calls matter more to you
The Ocean bundles a real dive computer (Bühlmann 16 GF algorithm, Tank POD support, multi-gas diving) with a 50mm AMOLED touchscreen and over 95 sport modes for life above the surface. It's overkill if you never dive, but for anyone who splits time between the pool, the ocean, and the road, nothing else in this lineup does both jobs at once.
The Vertical 2 replaces the original's transflective MIP display with a bright 1.5-inch, 2,000-nit AMOLED screen, while keeping the dual-band GPS, free offline maps, and multi-day battery life the Vertical line built its reputation on. A built-in LED flashlight and, for the first time, the ability to take calls from your wrist round out the biggest generational leap in Suunto's outdoor lineup yet.
