Suunto Ocean vs Suunto Race S
Same training-tier analytics, but the gap here is almost entirely about diving: the Ocean costs $550 more for a real dive computer, while the Race S fits smaller wrists at a fraction of the price.
SuuntoSuunto Ocean
SuuntoSuunto Race S
- •You want a genuine dive computer built into your training watch
- •Diving capability is worth well over double the price to you
- •You want Suunto's smaller-wrist-friendly watch for much less money
- •You have no need for dive computer functionality
The Ocean bundles a real dive computer (Bühlmann 16 GF algorithm, Tank POD support, multi-gas diving) with a 50mm AMOLED touchscreen and over 95 sport modes for life above the surface. It's overkill if you never dive, but for anyone who splits time between the pool, the ocean, and the road, nothing else in this lineup does both jobs at once.
Race S keeps the AMOLED display and dual-band GPS of the full-size Race in a case built for smaller wrists, at the cost of some battery life. Still one of the better values in the mid-range watch category.
*Estimated — this model's exact GPS battery life isn't published by the manufacturer. All figures are standard GPS mode, midsize case, no solar boost.
†Estimated — this model launched too recently to have an established customer rating yet.
