Head to Head

Garmin Fenix 9 vs Suunto Vertical 2

Both reach max-tier analytics with wrist calls and offline maps, but the Fenix 9 costs $400 more for a titanium build and Garmin's ecosystem, while the Vertical 2 counters with a built-in LED flashlight and a case built specifically for adventure watches, not multisport running.

  • •You don't need Garmin's specific ecosystem or ANT+ support
The Full Story

The Fenix 9 pushes display brightness to 3,000 nits while slimming down the overall profile with a full titanium bezel and rear cover. Adding 64GB of storage, 3D topo mapping, and dedicated rucking and endurance stamina metrics, it sits right at the top of Garmin's multi-sport lineup.

The Vertical 2 replaces the original's transflective MIP display with a bright 1.5-inch, 2,000-nit AMOLED screen, while keeping the dual-band GPS, free offline maps, and multi-day battery life the Vertical line built its reputation on. A built-in LED flashlight and, for the first time, the ability to take calls from your wrist round out the biggest generational leap in Suunto's outdoor lineup yet.

*Estimated — this model's exact GPS battery life isn't published by the manufacturer. All figures are standard GPS mode, midsize case, no solar boost.
