Head to Head

Suunto Ocean vs Suunto Race 2

Both share Suunto's training-tier analytics and offline maps, but the Ocean costs $400 more for a built-in dive computer, while the Race 2 counters with a brighter, newer-generation AMOLED display at less than half the price.

Best For
  • •Tank pressure monitoring and multi-gas diving are things you'd actually use
  • •$400 more is worth it for dive-computer certification
  • •You have no need for dive computer functionality
  • •You want Suunto's newest, brightest AMOLED hardware for meaningfully less money
The Full Story

The Ocean bundles a real dive computer (Bühlmann 16 GF algorithm, Tank POD support, multi-gas diving) with a 50mm AMOLED touchscreen and over 95 sport modes for life above the surface. It's overkill if you never dive, but for anyone who splits time between the pool, the ocean, and the road, nothing else in this lineup does both jobs at once.

The Race 2 jumps to a 2,000-nit, 120Hz AMOLED display and stretches dual-band GPS battery life to 55 hours, all in a thinner, lighter case available in steel or titanium. New AI Coach guidance, Training Stress Score, and a unified Recovery Score bring Suunto's training smarts much closer to Garmin's, without losing the lightweight, racing-first feel the Race series built its name on.

*Estimated — this model's exact GPS battery life isn't published by the manufacturer. All figures are standard GPS mode, midsize case, no solar boost.

†Estimated — this model launched too recently to have an established customer rating yet.
