Garmin Forerunner 170 vs Garmin Forerunner 570
The 570 is a full tier above: dual-frequency GPS, a built-in speaker and mic for wrist calls, and a jump from the 170's training-tier analytics, for $250 more.

GarminGarmin Forerunner 570
- •You don't need wrist calls or a voice assistant, and single-frequency GPS is accurate enough for you
- •You want to stay well under $350 for a new Garmin
- •Dual-frequency GPS accuracy and true smartwatch features are worth the jump to premium pricing
- •You've been eyeing the 970 or Fenix line and want a cheaper way to test smartwatch-style features first
The Forerunner 170 keeps the Forerunner 70's AMOLED touchscreen and training metrics, then adds a barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope, thermometer, and Garmin Pay on top. It's single-frequency GPS rather than the 265's dual-band, but for most runners, it closes almost the entire gap for $150 less.
The 570 layers a speaker, microphone, and voice assistant onto Garmin's mid-range running watch, closing some of the gap with true smartwatches. It's a genuinely nice watch, just priced close enough to the 970 that it's worth comparing both before buying.
