Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Solar vs Garmin Fenix 8 Pro
Two generations and a fundamentally different interface separate these: the 7 Pro Solar stays button-only with solar charging, while the 8 Pro adds a touchscreen and satellite messaging for $300 more.

GarminGarmin Fenix 8 Pro
- •You prefer a button-only, no-touchscreen interface with solar charging
- •You don't need satellite messaging for off-grid communication
- •You want Garmin's current flagship with satellite messaging built in
- •$300 more is worth it for off-grid communication and the newer touchscreen
One generation behind the Fenix 8, the 7 Pro Solar keeps a button-only, no-touch interface and adds solar charging for genuinely excellent battery life. If you want Garmin's deepest training analytics but have no interest in a touchscreen or smartwatch calling, this is the one to buy, often at a real discount versus the current flagship.
The Pro adds satellite communication hardware on top of an already excellent Fenix 8, aimed squarely at runners and adventurers who spend serious time outside cell coverage. It's an expensive answer to a specific problem, so make sure you actually have that problem first.
