Apple Watch Series 12 vs Apple Watch Ultra 3
Both still sit at the same training-analytics tier, so the Ultra 3's extra $400 is buying dual-band GPS precision, offline maps, and rugged durability that Series 12 doesn't have.

AppleApple Watch Ultra 3
- •You want Apple's best all-around running watch without flagship pricing
- •Training-tier analytics already covers what you need, and single-band GPS is enough for your typical routes
- •You need dual-band GPS precision, offline maps, and battery life that outlasts what Series 12 offers
- •Durability for genuinely rough outdoor use matters to you
The Series 12 brings a new Health Sensing System that reads heart rate every five seconds and rolls it into a 0-10 daily Readiness score, plus a genuinely longer 10-hour outdoor workout battery, up 25% from the Series 11. GPS is still single-band, same as the Series 11, so it's solid on open roads but can drift under heavy tree cover or between tall buildings. If that matters, the Ultra 4's dual-band GPS is the upgrade.
Ultra 3 stretches Apple Watch battery life further than any other model and adds genuine durability for outdoor use. It's still not a training-analytics powerhouse next to Garmin or Coros, but as an everyday smartwatch that can also handle long runs, it's excellent.
